Whether you feel safe is perception. The fact of whether you actually are safe is independent of your perceptions.

Rolling around in any vehicle, anywhere, anytime at any speed, and, associating the term safety to any aspect of the machine or the process is an absolute perception. The courts of law in this country will prove that to you in a heartbeat.

When I see idiots driving down the road after dark, in heavy fog or rain with their lights off, I wish that auto-sensing lights were mandatory on all vehicles. If your wife and kids were saved from a drunk driver because a bunch of airbags deployed on a low-speed rollover, even if the car was totaled, I'd be happy. No perfect solution.

Those same idiots will probably be using their cellphones as they drive. Punching in GPS locations or changing streaming music sources. When do we stop protecting the idiots? And others from the idiots? Should we ban the use of cellphones traveling faster than 5mph? Should we ban Garmins & Tom Tom's? Maybe we should also remove radios? Loud music can be distracting while driving especially if a fire truck, police car or ambulance siren can not be heard do to the volume of the music. Life will always have pitfalls. This reminds me of the first time my son went outdoors to play in winter. My wife had him so bundled up in a snowsuit, gloves, hat and scarf that he could barely move and was miserable.
