Yes, however, the Kiz appears to be more prone to really piss poor mpg the more you press the pedal even when driving 'easy'. Large delta between good and bad. I suppose the statement was in response to those that can't seem to get their normal everyday mpg up to the level others are experiencing. It is possible, but for whatever reason, it's like work trying to achieve it. By comparison, there's not as much of a wild spread in mpg when driving our AWD CVT SX4 'easy' or not. don't really have to think about it as much it's mpg per tank remains really consistant. Even my POS Rubicon's spread wasn't that large hammering on it versus taking it easy. Of course, that's a totally different animal.

Well here is an interesting test I did. I commute 50 miles round trip (up hill both ways ;) ). Living in WV we have alot of up and down rolling steep hills.

Cruise control on: Speed 65 mph (in automatic) average 22.5 mpg
Cruise control on: Speed 75 mph (in automatic) average 23.4 mpg
Cruise control on: Speed 75 mph (in triptronic mode and leave it in 6th gear letting it lug up the hills) 26.5 mpg
I tried this again on a 140 trip in to PA and I got 28.4 mpg. Big difference. I am assuming the improved fuel economy resulted in not giving gas to maintain the 75 mph up hill and only once did I drop below 65 and I manual shifted to 5th for a breif period and threw it back into 6th.

The tiptronic mode test is not really a surprise w/ this car. It falls in line with driving the car super easy. Meaning, letting it get up through the 'gears' to sixth quickly by not pressing the pedal hard on launches. Car feels, and seems, like it's lugging, but then returns the best fuel economy that way.

Very interesting tests.

I get about 19.1 in town, but 32 on the freeway.

Just completed a round-trip to California PA, just south of Pittsburgh, via the PA turnpike this weekend. Three adults, luggage for the weekend, cruise at 70 for most all of the 525ish miles, A/C on the entire trip, 38psi in all tires, a relatively fresh oil change and a new OE air filter. Drove the car normally (as in not trying to optimize fuel economy) Car ran and performed flawlessly (as expected). The HUD Avg MPG was reset at beginning of trip and it now reads 30.2 back in my driveway. 19,156 on the odometer.

I use (only) the mileage/gas tank method, and my last fill-up netted 28.6MPG; the one before that 26.6.

Mashed vs not-as-mashed, ay?

Filled the car up this a.m. and the mileage/gas tank method indicates the same 30.2 mpg. :? Well that's a first. Usualy that method yields a good 1.5-2 mpg lower result than the HUD. I will say this is the first highway ride I've taken with the car over 2 hours and where the speed remained a near constant 70mph for a majority of the logged miles.
