Torque converter - CVT lag issue solution?
Woah there Hawkzilla... Im not saying my personal opinions are the only ones (they are specifically noted as my own / personal opinions after all) but yours definitely are not the only ones either - you seem to be trying to advise your opinions are (somewhat close-mindedly) correct and no one elses have any relevance. I _was_ trying to say that though I dont 100% agree the Kizashi is not safe because its not as quick off the mark as some other cars that I _do_ see where you are coming from, but to hell with that.... We are all here to share and learn from each others experiences with the Kizashi dude - no need to be such a freaking smart-ass twat about it....
Wow, that's not the pot calling the kettle black at all. lolShaneous wrote:Woah there Hawkzilla... Relax, friend-o. No need to take it so personal that some people take issue with the lag. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this forum has a policy about name calling. Which is sad, since if you're old enough to drive you should be mature enough not to do it in the first place.

Impressive post. I'm sorry that any implication that an automobile that you own could use improvement has such a deep impact on you.~tc~ wrote:So, how did you convince mommy and daddy to buy the car for you little boy? Or do you just act like a privileged rich kid? Why didn't you con them into getting you an M3?
My point is that the car is what it is. The technical issues of why it is that way have been presented, and there is no "fix" without grenading your CVT. In other words, you are tilting at windmills and pissing in the wind.
This is a momentum priority vehicle. Between the astounding handling and the excellent brakes, the solution to this "problem" is cheap and easy - learn how to drive so as to play to the car's strengths. If you are too immature to realize that, sell it and buy something that suits your driving style better.
But in any case, stop crying over things that can't be "fixed".

This "lag" is really nothing compared to to turbo lag. The CVT has a linear feel which is not like the brief "stalled" feeling a turbo gives. I've had a 2.0T Passat and a 335 BMW and felt lag on both. When crossing traffic after a Stop sign - there is a brief "OH SH*T" moment before the Turbo kicks in. I haven't felt that with the Kiz.

The rattle is real, and if they don't fix it when I take it in for the initial service, I'm gonna be PISSED.
No reason this car should sound like marbles in a soup can every time you start, stop, or turn.

oh boy i happen to disagree with the notion of the kizzy being unsafe to move out of the way of ongoing traffic or in a traffic jam i get out out of the way just fine, i think this is an exaggeration i for one dont have any issues with the so called lag but i aint the one to be peeling off anyway.....the whole lag thing is a non factor in my opinion dont matter how i try to see what other people are seeing ...maybe its a mind thing...for wanna be dragsters..i dont know
I dont really have an issue with the "lag" either. i mean sure its not a bullet off the line but how often have i been in a situation where i have to gun it off the line to avoid an accident? In those situations u'd need a gt-r or something to get away in time. The most useful safety device i've needed is the big round thing in front of me and the brake pedal. That's gotten me away from any potential accidents so far.
It's been logically explained by other knowledgeable posters that the initial lag is indeed very real and was purposely installed by Suzuki to avoid excessive damage/wear on the CVT. For those who don't have a problem with it, that is fine and I'm sincerely glad that it doesn't bother you. However, for myself, it does present a potential safety hazard. Steering will do zero to help you when you are at a blind stop and need to pull out. I live in a very hilly city and often come to stops where I can't clearly see what is coming so if I start pulling out and I find I need to get moving quickly, this car can't handle it.
If you have read my other posts around the board, you would know I am very high on the Kiz and I take a lot of pride in my car. But that does not meant I can take issue with something that bothers me. To tell someone it is in their head or that they simply do not know how to drive doesn't help, and to be rude/nasty about it definitely doesn't help. Suggesting someone wants to be a "drag racer" because they have an issue with the lag is simply absurd.
Bottom line, if you are happy with your Kizashi's acceleration, that's great. I however am not, and I wanted to see who else has noticed this issue and if they had any answers. They have and they did, so I'm glad I posted my issue. For those who are concerned with the lag, if you ever figure out anything that helps please let me know. Thanks!

lookin - where you been man (plus you still owe me a beer)?
I may be up in you neck of the wood again this summer. I had so much fun trying to get around gridlock on Belt Parkway last summer on the local roads. And then there was that red light camera ticket - think it was frustration with the red lights every two blocks (if it wasn't for the lag - might have made three).
