My guess is that the wiring to the amp is too small, and combined with RFs reputation for poorly regulated power supplies, you probably get a significant volume difference depending on alternator output. The solution would be to either redo the wiring or to install a large capacitor near the amp to help regulate the voltage.

Yeah I agreee.. something not right if you are getting vol fluctuation without avc on. Does it 100% ONLY happen with speed changes? If not, it could be a sign your amp has the dreaded lurgy that many other amps have had and will need replacing. From brand new, I had 2 amps replaced before I had a stable unit.
Also, as this sounds like the exact same problem I had, you can look forward to a tighter bass response when they get you a properly working amp installed. Good luck!Boatman79 wrote:I do like the sound of mine.. just don't understand why when I am driving that the sound goes up without me touching the volume and I do not have the automatic volume control on... other then that glitch... sounds really good to me... especially for a stock stereo... but for the sub, yes that could hit harder, that would be nicer...
PS - Do NOT waste your time trying to have your dealer replicate the problem. If it was like mine, it's very random and this could take hours. Just tell them you read it was a common issue and ask/tell them to simply test it quick. That's all it took for me.

I know this is an older thread, but I have the sls with rf sound system and nav....in people's opinion would it be better to just buy a powered sub and put in the back, get rid of nav andput in the rf head unit or is it possible to havesomeone rewire the harness to work with the head unit better such asgetting rid of the line converter? Or replacing the amp with a different one?
If you haven't already set up the settings like in the pamphlet that most of us that bought the car secondhand didn't get, you're missing out on what this system is supposed to sound like. Once you 'tune' it, it's quite nice.dslatsh wrote:I know this is an older thread, but I have the sls with rf sound system and nav....in people's opinion would it be better to just buy a powered sub and put in the back, get rid of nav andput in the rf head unit or is it possible to havesomeone rewire the harness to work with the head unit better such asgetting rid of the line converter? Is that with the nav unit? Nav unit gives no control over sub volume, I do have it tuned like said but can't really hear subby still....can hear it in the rear.or if in the trunk. On a side note as well has anyone had to take their door apart and if so was there any kind of padding for the sound so wouldn't escape? Mine didn't seem to even have stytofoa.M like they put to reduce rattle etc.
Sorry, yes that's with the nav unit. I tweaked the settings a little bit more to suit my liking from the factory recommended ones. But if you haven't touched the crossovers, you're not even close to properly tuned.dslatsh wrote:Is that with the nav unit? As far as sound escaping. I don't think the padding was necessary, so they left it out. I know that there's a very noticeable drop in interior noise when I simply shut the sunroof from being tilted open, and I've not been able to hear the RF system outside the car a fraction as loud as it in the car, so I think whatever sound insulation there is in the car was sufficient that they didn't add any more.
