Kizashi dyno'ed

I just brought my Kizashi into the shop to get dyno'ed. Mine is a 11 Kizashi AWD. Dyno was run in FWD mode w/ traction off. The result was pretty surprising.....I was hoping to see around 140 HP at least but it is only around 127 HP with 135 lb-ft of torque.

I guess even though AWD is off, some of the power was still sent through the drive shaft. That's why the result was only at 127. I will be sending the ECU to dynotronics to get reflashed in the next day or two.

I don't fully understand all this, but is that 127 at the wheels? And what transmission do you have?

is there a way to figure out an obd command to record how much power is being sent to the rear wheels in real time? i just got torque on my phone and a obd bluetooth adapter and there is a ton of information but nothing about awd or tcs or the cvt or anything

yup, 127 is at the wheel, I have the CVT model

Damn that's a massive drive-train loss of 30%. Most losses from 150-250bhp cars are only approximately 15%.

Was the dyno set up properly? What was the ambient temperature at the time and approximate altitude?

The CVT is probably sapping a fair bit of power. That equals 95kW at the wheels (sorry, used to metric figures :) ).

My former vehicle was a Renault Sport Clio 182 that is rated at 132kW (ie virtually the same as the Kizashi) at the engine. I had it dynoed and got 103kW at the wheels. That's with a manual transmission.

So, allowing for the losses in the CVT and a different dyno (they all give different results) I'd say that's an okay result.

The result is also a nice flat torque curve and the power curve doesn't have a huge peak with rising revs- so that indicates good usable power. Reflects my thoughts from driving mine around- the power/ torque is where you need it.

I still think that's a huge drive-train loss and possibly the dyno wasn't set up properly. I use to own '01 BMW 320i E46 (2.2L Straight-6), the engine was rated at 180bhp but when we dyno'ed it, it had 152rwhp, hence the loss of 15.5%. This was done when the car had done 47,000 miles on the clock. A lot of other guys with same engines got similar figures too.

I'm sure the newer Kizashi's technology would result in lower losses hence why I find it hard to believe it's only pumping out so little at the wheels. I understand the AWD would have higher losses than 2WD but not at 30%, that's just a bit too much.

I had my Renault dynoed on two different dynos of the same brand. There was a 20kW difference from memory between the two dynos!!! The 103kW figure was from the higher reading dyno.

They do vary greatly and you can't really make line ball comparisons and say any particular dyno is going to read the same. Even sequential runs will give different outputs on the same dyno - due to the engine heating up, ECU changing ignition timing etc.

As long as the "after" figures are done on the same dyno you should see if there is an improvement.
