Here's my data if you want to analyze it. It's not AWD, it's FWD CVT.~tc~ wrote:

I have offered to analyze this type data for people before, but nobody has ever taken the detailed records.

I had been averaging 14 mpg in all city driving. I've got the 2012 SLS awd. I was told to try a product called "Cataclean" which is an additive that supposed to clean your fuel system to include your catalytic converter and make your car run more efficiently. I rand my tank to 1\4 added the Cataclean and drove it until I was running on fumes. I just filled up with 91 shell vPower. I'll report back to see if I get better performance and mpg. If I do I will attribute this to the Cataclean because I noticed better acceleration when I was driving around with the 1\4 tank along with the cataclean in it. I'm not sure if higher octange will give me even more power and better mpg but it was worth a try. If I cant hit 19-20 mpg in city driving the. I'll just stick with the OEM recommended 87 Octane.
That DASH MPH, is that reset every fillup? Or never reseted?Triggerhappy wrote:Here's my data if you want to analyze it. It's not AWD, it's FWD CVT.~tc~ wrote:

How do you average close to 50 mph in most of your tanks? That's not 15% city, thats more like 0% city

Yes, I reset my dash MPG manually at every fill-up. I average 50 mph because my commute is mostly highway at speeds 65-80 mph. The % city is my estimate of how many miles when I'm off the highway.ipaqxman wrote:That DASH MPH, is that reset every fillup? I just put 89 octane gas in Azumi during this last fill up. The handful of times I put 89 octane in her, she always has a noticeable improvement in acceleration in "6th gear" when I put her in manual mode, even when she's not in the powerband. It feels like she can accelerate from 50-70 in 6th about 25-50% quicker when I use 89 octane instead of 87, depending on the gradient of the road. Usually, with 87 octane gas, I can floor her in 6th, and she won't want to pick up hardly any speed at all.
I haven't really seen any improvement in gas mileage using 89 octane though. But then again, I've been doing a lot more driving than I usually do with this last tank.

Now's the best time to take advantage of the higher octane stuff. It's good to get it while it's cheap, no telling how long that's gonna last.bootymac wrote:Octane shouldn't change fuel efficiency all that much but it's cool that the Kizashi adapts to the higher octane so quickly. With cheaper gas prices, I'll try 89 or 91 in the Kizashi and see how it feels
