Current desktop was assembled mostly in 2005 other than the mother board which smoked in 2007. Maybe now I'll be able to run something other than linux.
I plan to clock it up to about 3.4ghz per core. So it should crush just about everything other than the fastest i7 processors. Others are clocking the same processor to 4ghz without trouble.
Apparently my old desktop was jealous of the new one because right after I got the new one built the old computer randomly started shutting down...
Last night while I was troubleshooting the old motherboard smoked a bit...(could smell something hot) Probably RIP. If I have time I will pull the board and isolate it on a plastic bag and try to boot it up. I think I may have just shorted it out, but it doesn't look like I will have a media PC after all... I had intended to use it to play movies on the TV.
I bought a real nice laptop for the wife for Christmas. As I was setting it up, registering and loading MS Office I was thinking I could really use a new machine. HE HE HE.
