Do a search on "equalization charging" and you'll find some info on reversing sulfation too. Basically you can pump up the charge voltage (on non sealed wet cell batteries) and it can help reverse early stages of sulfation.

Yes, and be very careful with batteries. Be sure to read all the caution and warning literature with chargers, as well as the environmental requirements--temperature, humidity, etc.
I once arced the positive and negative terminals using an wrench. Luckily it touched for a second and I didn't feel any voltage, but it almost instantly welded the wrench to the terminal.
