bootymac wrote:Also thinking about yellow fog lights. Any recommendations? I have PIAAs in my GTI but I'm considering Nokya and Hella
I loved the PIAA Ions I had in one of my Altimas. I called PIAA to see what their recommendation was for an upgrade, and because I wanted a whiter and brighter light for the main headlights, they recommended a yellow fog since the whiter light sucks in rain, which I used to drive in a lot of.

The combo they recommended is one of the best lighting setups I've ever driven. 8-)

Between PIAA, Hella, and Nokya, I'd rank them in that very respective order. PIAAs are premium bulbs from Japan and make professional racing lights. However, many people complain they are overpriced and they may be right. Hellas are a good quality German brand, but don't have the reputation of PIAA. They are also more OEM. Nokya are more the budget-minded bulbs made in Korea. They also have some higher wattage bulbs that can damage your harness so be careful.

I would also consider IPF bulbs. They are a Japanese brand that rivals PIAA, but have a good reputation among offroaders and motorcyclists because their filaments are more durable and last longer in high vibration environments. Some of their bulbs include filament vibration stabilizers inside the bulb.

I would also warn against installing HIDs in the fog lights. I have them (thanks to the previous owner) and while the yellow color output is nice, the light throw is just awful. In fact, the driver's side is utterly useless. The two bulbs also have different hues of yellow. It's an example of why HID bulbs suck in halogen-intended multi-reflectors. I think going with halogens or even LEDs is better.

Is there a way to aim the fog lights? Mine feel like they're pointing straight to the ground too

Yes, pull the aero panel and there are knobs on the back of the fog lights.

Excellent. I assume you can replace the fog light bulbs from underneath as well then?
