I've been lucky up until now to have free labor at my workplace, I just supply the stuff, be it oil, tires, brake parts or whatever. That department has been taken over by another company so no freebies on labor anymore. How long/many miles has it been?

I've had the oil and filter changed every 5,000 miles. Easier for me to remember that way.

Fram filters are generally looked down upon because of crappy quality and the use of materials like cardboard that can deteriorate. This was the case with Fram's "orange can" oil filters in the past. I've heard their higher grade filters are better, but many simply avoid the brand. There are horror stories of Fram filters that disintegrated and destroyed an engine from within.~tc~ wrote:There's your problemtwoqttsdad wrote:I've purchased a Fram filter from Walmart
I like to use premium filters given I use synthetic oil and extend my oil change interval to about every 7500 miles. I like Mobil 1, Purolater PureOne (there's a new, even better Purolator filter out now), K&N, and some other top tier oil filters. OEM filters are also pretty good, but can be more cumbersome to obtain and usually aren't as good as the top tier filters I named above.
Just remember than when you extend your oil change interval (OCI), you need to check your oil occasionally to make sure you are not running low on oil. I typically have to fill .5 quarts between oil changes probably due to some burn off. This was the case with Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra in both my Mazda3 and Kizashi.
I got Mobil 1 5W-30 on sale at Costco so I'll be using that next oil change. I'll see how it does about burn off between my OCI.

Purolator PureOne is a great filter for the price. It has a very high filtration rate and the filter media is HUGE. I plan on using them once I start changing my own oil.
I'm also a fan of Pennzoil Platinum and Ultra in applications where I can't use Shell Rotella T6. UOAs on BITOG show that its additive pack is better than similar oils from Mobil and Castrol.
Honestly though, you can't really go wrong as long as you're changing your oil frequently. The higher quality stuff is more beneficial for extended OCIs.
Does anyone know who manufactures the OEM Suzuki filters?

Indeed. BITOG is almost too much. I actually used to be a member there almost 10 years ago but got banned due to having a college education when it came to the discussion of politics in their off topic section.~tc~ wrote:BITOG = http://www.bobistheoilguy.com
You will go blind there is so much info there

Go there for discussions on oil, filters, and other things related to machine lubrication. Stay away for anything involving intellectual discussions on anything otherwise. They simply ban you if you have a different opinion and can back it up with facts. They are not used to that.
