Hi guys Ive tried to see If I would get better mpg with using 97ron bp fuel. I put £30 in it that was 95 ron bp fuel last week then decided to top it up with 97 ron bp fuel in it made no difference. so I then put in £30 97 ron in it when it was low. The car felt a bit sluggish when I slipped it into manual. So as i thought 97 ron was to strong for the car am I rite in thinking It was to strong or Im I experience a problem with the car baring in mind its only done 4k. What do you guys think is it set up for 95 or 97 ron

Gas too expensive to go more than 87 octane lol.. wish i could go higher, like 94 sunoco

Higher octane gas has less power in it than regular, it burns slower and cooler, there's no such thing as "too strong for the car". Some have reported better gas mileage on higher octane, I tried it and saw no difference whatsoever. The PCM controls the engine according to gas grade, you should never hear any knock, the only way to tell any difference would be very accurate power and mileage measurements.
Run mine on the lowest octane available, 87 I think, runs great and gets 30 mpg.

Most lower grades in the US have 10% ethanol in it, which will decrease mileage and may not be good for the life of the egr systems. Premium fuel has better additives in it that keep everything cleaner along with a higher octane rating.
But unless the car is self-tuning enough to take advantage of the higher octane, it won't make a difference. To me, anything without ethanol is better. A lot of my older cars can tell a big difference.

Hi guys thanks for all your input. I just thought because I had only did this change and I noticed the car in manual had changed. I am now going to see about the LPG conversion at a cost of £1400
Interesting that there's an LPG conversion available. Is it that much cheaper than normal gas?

Samir Im from Glasgow and the price are. £1.28 for petrol and £0.66 for gas. The conversion costs £1400 I think its a no brainer to be honest
