I have owned a Kizashi which I bought new in NZ in 2014. 6 speed manual. It has been a great car and have been very very happy with it. 170,000kms of trouble free driving (except for headlight bulbs) BUT recently Aircon not blowing cold air. 2 separate "experts" have advised its a leaking evaporator and have 2 separate quotes $5500 NZD and $6000NZD. UNBELIEVABLE! Am told the part itself is $3000 and $2500-$3000 for labour and regass as the dash has to come out. 16 hours labour! I'm told that the part has to come from Japan as there are none in NZ! HELP!
CAN SOMEONE HELP with thoughts and advice.

This failure of an evaporator unit is certainly not very common in the Kizashi. I have yet to find a bad one myself. I'm not saying that it couldn't be . If I was needing to replace one , I would be definitely be installing a used one . The dash has to be removed so it is involved but I don't think book time can be that high .I'll have to look it up tomorrow.

Thank you old tech. Hugely appreciated. You see, if I can't resolve this issue, the car is effectively a write off! Cos who in their right mind would want to pay $6000NZD on a car repair for a car worth maybe $7500! Any help anyone else can provide would be hugely appreciated..
