Someone poke me but I believe this is either very close or it is it.
Would have to research more, buy and test.
Does anyone have any experience with these?
Possible AF part to retain factory USB!?

Nice.
Have you got any more pictures - in particular of the brown plug's contacts/ pin orientation? (I've got a whole stack of info on my PC somewhere about those plugs, plus my head unit is sitting around so I can check against it.)
Found a pic - if it looks like this (the four pin brown plug) on the inside then you've got the right plug
At a guess, is it a part made to fit a WRX? I discovered they used the same type of plugs.

Unfortunately all I have is the listing itself (click on the picture). Other than that, I will be researching more as well.murcod wrote:Nice.

I recall seeing some kind of connector at the base of the USB port circuit board when I fixed mine.
Check out these photos:

Also, don't you want a USB female end assuming you are looking to replace the factory USB port?

Actually, my goal with this part is to keep the stock USB port and be able to use it with an aftermarket stereo.KuroNekko wrote:I recall seeing some kind of connector at the base of the USB port circuit board when I fixed mine.

Therefore the connector in question needs to plug in to the stock USB connector (the purple/blue-ish connector on the same board as the female usb header to the brown plug on the picture), which in turn replaces the stock cable and terminates in a male USB connector, which then plugs into the back of an aftermarket stereo.
Aftermarket stereos with USB functions usually have multiple ports, sometimes one in the front and multiple in the back. You may already know this. (why am I even telling you this)
With this we should be able to keep that OEM port and bring one of the rear usb ports on the stereo to the front (like the stock system).
The only issue we are really running into is that the port is not really referenced or an actual standard, but if we go by Japanese manufacturers, then it should be a good assumption that this "Metra AX-TOYUSB-2 Cable for Toyota and Lexus" will be either it, or very close.
Just have to buy it...
And bought.murcod wrote:Nice.

Had to do it, can't let this one go by without knowing if it will fit or not.
Once it gets here expect pictures and all.
Crossing fingers that this will do the job with no mods.

I'm pretty sure that's the part required. Those type of plugs are colour coded depending on the pin layout and number of pins (from what I recall). So the brown plug should match with the factory harness. Well done!
If you go ahead and buy it, let us know how it goes.

Can you cancel that purchase Avluis?
I just found this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_686 ... USB-2.html
It's the wrong pin configuration going by the above.
There's also this one, but I'm searching for a pin out of the plug at the moment:

Taking another quick look at the service manual, I have referenced two distinct names for the connectors.
According to the page "USB Harness Inspection", which is under "9 - Body, Cab and Accessories > 9O - Audio Visual / Navigation > Repair Instructions", the connection to the USB socket is referenced as the G216 connector and to the audio unit as G221 connector.
I'm certain this is vehicle specific. But right above this page, the two prior pages give me the info that I need.
The cable I just bought should plug into the stock cable to goes to the USB socket. Which in turn gives me a USB male plug.
So while it does not make a direct connection to the back of the USB socket, at least we are not clipping or throwing away cables.
Hopefully it is plug and play though.
Yep, not the right plug.
Will be right back, time to cancel.

Bump!
This ebay post has pictures, it's the older style connector (your second link).
Looks close, but is it close enough.
Edit:
Ok, I am seeing a male and a female version of this plug as well.
This is going to be a headache, LOL.
But other than that, if you are going aftermarket, then the chances are you want the male plug to the stock USB Socket paired with a male USB connector to the aftermarket stereo.
Tracking? (Note: I'm half telling this to myself, my memory ain't great)
One more edit:
Should have just done this!
