License Plate

Hello,

Does your trunk lid only have two holes for the license plate? My only has mounting holes for the top of the plate, which means it makes a terrible rattle when I shut the lid. I guess I could use some 3M double sided like they use to mount the body trim to hold it down, but I was just curious if other people had similar issues.

I ordered the Kizashi license plate frames (chrome) through Suzuki... should be here today. I was told they are made of firm stainless steel so I am hoping they mount tight enough not to rattle. If not, I will be looking on here for solutions.

I will post a review and images of these frames on the forum. They are $50 for a pair, but if they look sweet they will be worth it.

Sounds good, let us know. Otherwise the double sided tape may end up being the best bet. That stuff holds on plenty by itself, so I don't think it will have any trouble holding down my license plate.

I have a rigid chrome plate frame (HD), and it still rattles. Need to secure lower hole in the frame to the plate, and maybe a rubber gourmet in the rear to keep it from vibrating.

My problem is that the plate rattles against the trunk, even if the frame was secured to the plate it would still rattle.

Mine also was loose so I just drilled two additional holes for self tapping stainless steel screws and secured the bottom of the plate to the trunk lid. Place some good sealent in all the holes and also a strip of door rubber under the plate to stop it from vibrating when you close the trunk. This worked great.

That's an option. I wasn't too keen on drilling holes so I may try the body tape first.

You might want to go to a local hardware store and look for thin adhesive weather stripping. I have seen double side stick before, but I don't know what it was called or used for. (probably for interior windows in the winter) That way you will slightly push the plate out from the car and have a cushion under it.

Double sided tape might work for awhile, but if it doesn't flex it may eventually stop working weather stripping will probably outlive the car if you find the right stuff.

I also liked the rubber gourmet idea, but you may have to use lock washers or locking nuts if you do that because the groumet might cause a regular screw/bolt to slowly back out.

Basically all of the options will probably solve your problem.

I have the same predicament before when I got my Passat Wagon new..the rear license plate would rattle when I close the rear lift gate, and the lower unscrewed portion would rub below and scratch the paint job in the process via vibration, etc..don't wanna get that on your new Kizzy.

What I did then, I bought a narrow black plastic adjustable license plate bracket from Pep Boys (about the same width as the license plate)...it functions as a "gasket" of sorts between the license plate and the rear lift gate. It also creates that necessary gap under the unscrewed lower portion from rattling and damaging the paint job underneath. Just make sure the screws are long enough to fit the license plate securely. Works like a charm..

That's an interesting idea. I want to replace my frame anyway because the current one is a dealer ad, maybe I'll get two. Weather stripping also sounds like a good idea. Thanks for all of the help everyone!
