Perhaps a more accurate comment might be "Gee, I wish my car got good fuel economy, but first I'll need to learn how to drive" or something similar.

A proper break-in, and then a measured throttle foot, keep my Kizashi returning mileage that rarely dips below 26MPG at fill-up (last tank with numerous over-100MPH excursions netted 26.2MPG).

So, for those with gas woes, first break that puppy in right, right at/from the beginning.

Then, perhaps, if you have any personal honor, you'll apologize for the uncalled for directed slur.

I'm leaving in a week for a 2,000+ mile road trip, and I'll keep accurate records of my mileage and fill-ups. Since I'll be out of state I'll keep the speeds respectful of the local gendarmes.
And I'll report my shit

For some reason I can only get around 24MPG pure city driving. I dont usually do hard acceleration or anything like that. Not quite sure what the problem is = =b

You are doing good at 24 mpg. Thats beating the epa. I would say that youre mpg would go up if you removed the word usually from the sentence and didnt do any hard acceleration. If youre still gonna have some fun which I hope you do, then 24 is good. If you were super cognicent of your habits you could probably get 26 which would be the same as getting a free gallon and some chabge at every fill up as opposed to what you get at 24 mpg

Im super consciencous n drive like a grandma, slow acc, coast, avoids brakes, but getting less than 20 with normal not even congested city driving... Recent roadtrip cruise control at 70mph got me 29. Really feel like there is something wrong but not sure wat i can do... Sad

Since I have somewhat started this recent bout of psuedo finger pointing and bravado, I feel that I need to back my "shit" up. As soon as I finish my current tank I pledge to MODERATELY hypermile a tank and report my results. I will of course include pictures of the trip computer.

The trip computer is a random device as far as I'm concerned. Rather a general guideline. I reset it this morning before taking off for work and I could have taken a picture of the Avg MPG display reading 45.1, 60.0 most of the ride 38-39 and it finally ended at 36.9 when I shut it off after arrival. My calculated mpg value will be the usual 28-ish result. This a.m. I employed the hypermiling techniques for yucks. And big surprise, stop signs, red lights and the hills killed it.
Before resetting it this morning, it was reporting 30.6 and hasn't been rest in a month. However my calculated returns have been around 27 +/- 0.5 mpg.

Agreed that the trip computer isn't totally accurate. I will do a hand calculation which also isn't totally accurate because I have no way of know how much was left in the tank before I filled it because I did not keep track of that last time.

I will be within +1 or -1 MPG when I calculate.

With the inaccuracy of the trip computer noted and documented, I have often wondered if even the odometers are accurate?

Anyways according to many sites and surveys, drivers with instant fuel readouts in their cars report a ten percent higher fuel efficiency over those that don't have them.

The Trip MPG Estimation is high. Mine usually runs about 1.8MPG too high. I typically call it 2 to be safe.

I find the Kizashi can be an efficent car if you drive it as such. Last night I had the 'blessing' of a long trip to the Mother In Laws for dinner. I filled up prior to leaving and reset the MPG Estimation, Average MPH Estimation, and the Trip Odometer.

After 230 Miles I'm showing over 34 MPG. With gauge error I assume about 32MPG. Average MPH was 51MPH. My wife drove for 1/4 of the trip. She wasn't concerned about MPG and ran the AC. It was hot on the way so I ran the AC for my part. The way home last night was cool enough to not use AC and keep the windows closed. I think I could have done about 1MPG better if I had driven the whole way.

If I have time today I'll fill up close to work (about 1/2-1 mile drive). We can see what the error on the gauge is with an actual miles / gallons calculation.

I would like to hear if you are using any specific techniques if any to acheive your mpg, and maybe it might help some of those getting in the low to mid twenties to get better economy. With the ways that are cars are built today and how efficient engines have become, you would really have to try to get less than 28 miles to the gallon in this car.
a good example is northernsrtar driving all city and getting 3 MPG better than EPA.
He gets 24 MPG in all city traffic and some highway/urban drivers are getting that as a combined mileage. If you are one of the people getting 24-25 combined, look at what these two (northernstar and mnls) acheived and then reassess your driving or really look into the possibility that your car has a mechanical issue.
My guess is that mnls just has great control over his throttel and I wouldn't even be surprised if he comes back saying that he didn't use any hypermilling techniques that were radical or out of the norm.

1. Why in the hell are you driving 230 Miles just for dinner at the in-laws?
