Stock stereo subwoofer adition help.

Hey guys so I think I saw this topic earlier but I cant find it again. Im just looking for advice on adding a sub to the stock 7 speaker system, keeping the head unit stock. I don't know much about stereos really but Im just after a bit more bass at lower volumes. I was thinking a 10" to one side of the boot but I don't know what power etc and amp I'd need. Are rca converters easy to install? Pretty much deciding if it's worth trying to diy it or leave it to the pros and pay labour.

Are your other speakers stock? If yes, I would advise to upgrade the front speakers first and then see if you still want more bass. The stock fronts are 6.5" splits (separate woofer and tweeter).

The woofer itself is a pathetic plastic moulded thing that weighs next to nothing.

If you do upgrade the front speakers look for s decent brand with high sensitivity specs (are 93dB is a good figure) as it will save you needing an amplifier to drive them. Polk Audio and Focal are two brands that come to mind as being suitable.

My bad if I'm wrong but as I said, not too up on speaker specs etc. Would they (or the correct option) fit in the stock position behind the existing grilles? My whole system is the stock base model system, I actually really like the sound it gives, compared to my old car it's incredible but I find it a bit flat until you turn it up over 15ish

The woofers will definitely fit behind the stock grilles and the tweeters should as well. (They won't be a straight "bolt in" replacement, but will fit with some handy work.)

Realised my mistake after i posted it haha.
So do you think itd be worth just paying the labor or having a crack myself?
My main confusion is revolving around the crossover.

DIY is best, but it depends on how handy you are?

Another option would be a under seat type self powered woofer. I haven't investigated the space under the seats, but some of them are supposed to be very good.

Yea i thought about that first up, I helped a mate install one in his ute it sounds great, the Kizashi however has air con vents under there for the rear passengers so itd mean a bit less cabin comfort for a bit better sound quality i guess.

You can mount a "free air" sub in the deck just like the stock system. I would go with a "thin" sub if possible - it's kind of crazy how low the stock unit hangs into the opening

Yes, I've had my boot loaded full a couple of times and more than once thought "Hmmm... If I had that factory sub that box wouldn't have fitted in...."

PS: A word of warning, they've kindly spot welded a piece of steel over the cutout for the factory sub in my 2011 model. I'm guessing Wonson might find the same thing?

Yep welded haha. That was my first idea. Out of curiosity on said plate, does anyone with the stock system know what the cables for with a vacant plug on the end?

My thought is to me a custom enclosure to one side in the boot and make the wall flat basically with the sub at the back and have it easy to remove as I often fill the boot to capacity and mount The amp under the back shelf out of sight. The other option would be one of the slim ones murcod posted and just mount that in to one side. Maybe speakers are a better option to keep it tidy and uncomplicated though? Wish I knew more about this stuff
