Should I become a first time Kizashi buyer?

Anything related to the Kizashi can go here, but please look at the other headings first. Your topic may fit better under something else.

It met most of my criteria (black, 6MT) but had almost 50k miles on the clock and was driven by a guy that I'm guessing is no more than 25. I remember my early 20's and how I drove cars back then, and I wouldn't buy a car from my early 20's self..

I was still interested however, I know that in Texas mileage can pile up more quickly than other states..and a short test drive proved the car still felt tight and shifted well. The biggest problem is that the kid wouldn't budge from his $18k asking price even though I pointed out that lower mileage top of the line, loaded SLS's were starting out around that price from dealerships. I decided to walk, and maybe he'll come to his senses and give me a call after it hasn't sold in a few weeks. Then again, maybe someone will be willing to pay that if they're more desperate for a manual trans Kizashi than I am..
18k is insane.

I paid 15k for mine....7500 miles....last August....before Suzuki US bankruptcy. And it was in mint condition PLUS aftermarket HIDs.
Keep looking. That was not a good deal. I take it the kid did not really need to sell his car. Nobody should buy it at that price and mileage.

Yeah, I told him $14k would be my top dollar considering the bumper to bumper is gone, and also halfway to expiring the drivetrain warranty. I'm thinking he's just testing the waters for a week or so, and will come back to reality unless he decides to keep it..

At 25, I'm guessing he owes more than $14k on it.

I was just guessing on the age by the way he looked/acted...and also his wife and two kids that looked under 5 years old.

Anyway, I managed to track down another 6MT, this time a 2012 GTS with 32k miles. Seems a little excessive on the mileage for a 2012...but then again this is Texas where we have more miles of highways, interstates and paved roads in general than a lot of entire countries.

Another thing that troubles me is the fact that he's already put aftermarket wheels and some graphics on the thing. If the graphics aren't painted they can be removed, but the wheels could either be a style preference thing, or worst case scenario replacements after destroying the originals. I'll go check it out this evening regardless..

Awful price. You did the right thing by walking.

Ok, strike two on finding a 6MT for sale within a decent radius. I should have looked more closely at the pics before I bothered to check out the car..as well as the headline of the ad "2012 Suzuki Kizashi Sport". It wasn't a sport anything, but rather a base S model which explains the aftermarket wheels. Don't get me wrong, the S is still a nice car and probably faster than the fully loaded SLS...but just too much equipment missing for my tastes.

So my next question is this:
I'm not terribly rushed to find a car at the moment, but since I sold my Mazda 6 I am without a car. If I can't find a 6MT with decent mileage (and asking price) the next few weeks I may just bite on a GTS/SLS with the CVT. The CVT itself doesn't really bother me, but reliability does with Suzuki dealerships few and far between these days. Has anyone hooked up the RRM CVT cooler to their car? I'm just wondering if keeping the tranny cooler (I'm in Texas keep in mind) would prolong the life or at least lessen teh chances of a heat related break down?

As a Honda salesperson, I have some knowledge of a used Kizashi's trade value and ACV ("actual cash value").

My car, an '11 S AWD with an at-the-time 72K, was tagged at $5,300--8,000. I had an opportunity to appraise a real nice '11 SLS with just over 8,000 miles, and its ACV was $11,000.

Don't get ripped off buying a used one; they have zero value in the used car market.

FWIW, I was offered a brand new '13 SE AWD at $16,900. In March.

Wait, so you're saying don't buy one at all, or just not a used one? I know that usual depreciation doesn't really apply to orphaned cars, and I also know that simply signing the paperwork on one of these things is the same as taking a large wad of cash and burning it right on the spot. I plan to buy cash though, no matter if it's used or new..

What do you think a fair offer to propose on a 2013 GTS would be? I've almost given up on the 6MT..

Mind if I ask how much they let it go for? I'm guessing you had a trade-in (the Camaro?)...but I won't and intend to pay in full. (no financing)
