That's close. London is terrible too. If I live there, I'll never care about car dings because I'll die of a heart attack very early on.

My last car (Mazda6) was a ding magnet. It visited a panel shop on average once every 8 months. Cannot leave it anywhere without getting dinged on. Once parked right in the middle of an empty carpark, away from the entrance, and a 75yo Volvo driver parked right into my driver door. Saw it happened bit still the hassle of getting it repaired.
People slamming doors at it due to high winds while I was on a coastal day trip. The dent was the size of a soccer ball.
Parked at KFC for 5 mins and I got a dent from a kid opening the door from the next car.
A teenage driver backed into my front bumper while reversing out of his home; my car was parked across the road on a 4-lane street!!!
A shopping trolley was left right next to it in an almost empty carpark, with a complimentary ding.

etc etc etc...

That said, I've seen some acts of consideration.
People opening doors and using their hands to make sure there's no contact with the next car. One man even walked over to open the door for his wife because the spot was too tight and she might hit the next car. He was making sure the door had enough clearance.

LOL enough rant.

I believe the hexhead screws used on license plates should be outlawed. At least use button-head screws!

I had a cheap version of the bumper bully but license plate screw head pressed right through anyway and left a mark. So i got one of these which is awesome:

And I have one of these bump shox things up front. Every car I've had got a bent up front plate from parking, -and this wont damage the other guy's rear bumper either:

Looks a little weird but I've actually grown to like it in the font of the Kizashi.

A LONG time ago I was a member of a sports car club (do they still do marquee sports car clubs?) and one of the members bought a brand new car. Of course, we were all ogling over his car, and then I noticed a nice round dent in the back of his car. I asked him how upset he must have been when he noticed it. He told me, HE did the dent! I said whaa? He then told me he lives in San Francisco and parking is so bad there he figured he would just get if over with and be the first.
Sad to say, but in big cities it is a fact of life...

....and in high school student parking lots. You should see my son's poor Corolla. 360 degrees of dents, dings and scuffs.
