Not farfetched--Mercedes has been using fiber-optic wiring for all of their infotainment/speakers in their cars for years. It's pretty much impossible to change anything in the setup without using their parts/service or totally swapping out and rewiring the whole system.

Yep, my Porsche has a similar setup for the top-of-the-line factory Bose. Sounds great though. 8-)

I'm surprised more fiber optic and led combinations aren't being used in cars though.
