Because there aren't any tangible benefits? :P

Agreed. I'm going for the XB35. Quality is something rather important in electronics. Even if they have the same warranty and lifespan, that's no indication of actual reliability or output performance. I'd like to think the XB bulbs has a lower failure rate than the standard bulb and more consistent performance over its lifespan. Maybe not, but for $20 it's worth it IMO. After all, even diagnosing HID problems requires the bumper and headlights to come off with the Kizashi. Why do you think I'm going for Morimotos and not even bothering to see if it's the bulb or the ballast at fault with my cheap ebay-type kit? It's because it's not worth my time and I'd rather replace it with quality components like the Morimoto kit with their XB35 bulbs.

Also, I'm well aware that 4300K is the optimal temp for output and it's the OEM HID color temp. I've had a high quality 4300K kit before. (These Morimotos would be my third HID kit.) However, I personally like the pure white color that 5000K puts out. It's also a color not often offered as most companies make 4300K, 6000K, 8000K, etc. This is why I'm curious enough to try it. That being said, the 4300K bulbs from Morimoto look like they have great output.

I was really debating the 5k, in video and photography, 5600k is considered "daylight". The 4300 are plenty white enough for me.

My kit arrived today. Hopefully I'll be able to install them tonight and share some pictures.

On a side note, I double checked their luminosity and they're rated at 3650 lumens at 4300K... I'm a bit skeptical as it seems really high

The main concern for me was finding a Canadian vendor that offered lifetime warranty. This vendor has been around since 2008 and is highly recommended by the BMW community.

The kit was only $100. It has German components and the ballasts are assembled in China and the bulbs in Taiwan. I'm not too concerned though; the vendor is reputable and I have lifetime warranty.

Guaranteed performance at -40C would only be mentioned by a Canadian company LOL.

Judging from this pic http://absolutehid.ca/catalog/product/g ... mage/3104/ the Morimoto is much better put together. I notice there is no stabilizer arm/collar on the bulb, and 3.2 seconds to full brightness seems like an eternity (but then, that's at 10C). I'll need to time mine tomorrow night.

Yeah, there is no doubt that the Morimoto kits are better. If I lived in the USA, they would've been my first choice.

I inspected the AbsolutHID kit and it's pretty standard.

HIDs are in and I am VERY impressed.

I modified the bulb holders so that the return wires are facing down. The stock fitment positions the returns wires facing up, causing shadows in the beam.

I also popped the L-R adjuster covers (one which flew into the depths of my GTI's engine bay...) and adjusted the left headlight a bit left and up.

I managed to fit the ballasts within the housing so no drilling required.

The Philips Blue Vision bulbs are still too yellow compared to the HIDs.

I'm still tweaking the aim but here's how it looks so far. First picture is on flat ground. Second and third picture are on a sloped driveway facing a hill

Awesome.

I'm telling you, there is no match to the performance of HIDs.
I've dicked around for years with high end halogens and learned that you can't top HIDs short of a full light bar like an offroader. High end PIAAs can cost you about half of a quality HID kit yet they don't last as long as stock halogen bulbs.
Once you go HID, it's hard to ever go back.
