CVT Transmission starting to fail

Anything related to the Kizashi can go here, but please look at the other headings first. Your topic may fit better under something else.

I'm simply pointing out that automatic transmissions still have their issues today. Nothing is completely reliable

I'm in agreement. You want reliabilty with transmission go manual, otherwise failures can and will happen. Also it depends on what car it is applied to. Subaru is not having horror stories. Honestly I haven't seen widespread horror stories with the Kiz like I use to hear on the bimmer forums of past about their steptronic.
I don't see enough info on Kiz anywhere about reliablity in general. I mean if 3 people post about cvt failures it is going to look like alot, seeing as there is not alot of owners anyways.

With the two Honda stories, one is written in 2011 about 2002 model vehicles (recalled in 2004) with people complaining of failures in 2011.... on 9 year old vehicles?

The other also written in 2011 is talking about 2005 - 2010 models (also recalled; quote "it is undertaking the recall because of incidents where the vehicles’ secondary shaft broke while drivers were shifting quickly between drive and reverse mode" )

The Chrysler issue is current with output shafts fracturing. Definite manufacturing issue!

The big thing is all of those have been acknowledged by the manufacturers. Have there been any CVT related recalls? There certainly seems to be enough different brand vehicle owners expressing dissatisfaction on various forums. This has probably been posted before http://www.autoblog.com/2013/12/02/niss ... ems-ghosn/

The people who have posted on here also don't seem to be getting an answer on why their CVT's failed. That's probably the biggest head ache for any CVT owner! You've got no idea why it happened or if you could be next.

A few years down the track it could pan out exactly like those Honda articles- a problem is acknowledged and a recall issued.

I was surprised to learn the other day that the auto option in the new 2015 Subaru WRX is going to be a CVT... I wonder how that is going to pan out...

Seems a lot of cars regardless of transmission at some point experience tranny problems.

They promise that it's a "performance CVT". Subaru CVTs have been rather good. It's unclear to me who builds them. I've researched it quite a bit but there are varying accounts. It looks like they build their own "Lineartronic CVT". However, given Subaru is partially owned by Toyota, it's possible Aisin makes their CVTs.
Some sources say it's JATCO, but I don't believe it. JATCO does not even list Subaru as a company using their transmissions.

Regardless, we'll see how the WRX's CVT does. However, many fans are happy that they finally offer the WRX in a 6 speed manual. It's been only a 5 speed all this time.

The main complaint against the new Rex is that it's only offered as a sedan. No hatch.

This may have been mentioned in this thread ( I haven't read all 14 Pages) but Subaru is the first to use a chain instead of a belt in their CVT's. Just thought I would throw that out there.

That might explain why their cvt felt a lot more 'solid' than the Kizashi's.

I just saw in the service manual that our cvt uses a 'steel belt' also, so there's no rubber in ours even though it may feel like it.

Just signed up for this forum just to reply to this post. I have a 2010 2WD with the CVT. It will roll over 100,000 in a few days. I've never changed the tranny fluid before but am planning on it later today. Unfortunately Suzuki OEM parts are a hefty drive away for me after Suzuki up and left America's auto market, (shame cause the Kizashi is by far the best car I've ever owned). I couldn't find a WIX replacement cause they say it's N/S. Found the torque brand filter and valvine synthetic CVT fluid. Anywho car still drives like new. I'm just changing the filter and 50% of the fluid cause I figure I should. Thanks for this post

On a side note my car still has like 50%+ of the FACTORY brakes  I wonder if that's common for all Kiz

Hmm...I have been wondering about the delay to reverse gear on mine as well lately....im not having those issues you are as far as rpms drop etc. But my 2011 awd sometimes seems to take a little longer to shift between reverse and drive...I was hoping this was normal...thought maybe was due to awd feature. Anyone else seem like takes a few seconds to have the "gears" switch into position? You can hear/feel the difference once it switches but isn't a jerk feeling
