I've been burning down public roads since I got my license almost 44 years ago. I learned in Chicago.
And I learned along the way that when my spider-sense tingles it's time to slow down.

I've had my share of tickets. I loved my last high-speed stop; the Statie said "when you passed 90 I had to stop you".
Oh that makes sense, hehe. This is why I never rotate my tires until I see some wear, lol.

The only sense that I've learned is that I feel like 'nah, I can push it right now, it's safe', this is THE time to slow down. Every time I've had this feeling and gave in==ticket.

A radar detector has got to be cheaper than the tix and insurance premiums.

I've been very pleased with my Escort Passport Max.

It can be--if you can slow down fast enough for your speed to be under the limit.

Beyond 25+ the limit, I don't own a car that will slow down fast enough.

But you're right, for the occasional daily speeder, a good radar detector is a solid investment. The insurance premium hikes are no joke either. Better to pay an attorney to keep that ticket off your record. You're going to pay either way--the attorney's fees or the insurance premium hikes. :(

Yes, but the distance/time depends on the detection range which with the Max is a LOOOONG way! There is one other model (Redline) that has even more range, but it doesn't have the GPS functionality and therefore not as good with the false alarms (which is critical IMHO)

I wonder about radar detectors being a good investment. Maybe in some states, but if you live in California your radar detector will just alert you that you are the lucky holder of a brand new ticket! You see Calif. has this thing called instant on radar. About the only way you could possibly survive a ticket is that if the cop was using it to check each car before he got to you. Then maybe a detector would be advantageous. If you are on the road and there aren't any other cars or he/she sneaks up on you, off to traffic court (and sneaking is EXACTLY what the CHP is good at).

True, you have to be more careful if you're out alone.

Here in TX, I have found the cops more lazy, and they just leave it on.

I still don't understand. How can rotating tires make them go out of balance?

it doesn't take very much weight at all on these cars to noticed a problem. You'll feel and/or hear a 1/8th of an ounce. My guess is his new snow tires settled in with snow an ice 'permanently' attached on the wheel due to the weather and, once removed, the balance was off slightly requiring correction. Some tires should be re-balanced after a few thousand miles of break-in. I feel the tire size and wheel combo, at least of the GTS & SLS, benefits from doing this.

Mine have been smooth as silk since I bought the car with 33K miles on it. It's got 43K on it now. About time to replace them by my wife's Odyssey comes first!

They cleaned the ice and snow from the wheels during rotation, leaving them enormously unbalanced.
