The "compact" spare is still full size as in its the same diameter of tire as the 4 alloys otherwise it would damage the car driving down the road. When anyone references a "full size" spare its typically the 5th tire/wheel combination as the 4 mounted on the car and can be interchanged with any of the 4 if they go flat or are damaged. It seems what we're running into here are symantics and what the spare tire is actually called.

I'm not sure that's always true. Generally donuts are not the same size as the other wheels, that's why you can't drive over a certain speed on them. I know for a fact that the donut on my Audi was not the same as the other four tires.

Which is also odd since my Audi A4 had a full size, interchangible spare, the same wheel and tire size as the 4 mounted on the car.

It should be the same diameter, but if it is not exactly the same tire, it would potentially be unstable at speed, so they would caution about going over a certain limit.

I check my spare and its a 16 inch steel, I don't have a problem with that. I just hope I never have to use it.
