Moving from Sydney, Aus to Toronto, a few Kizashi Questions

Anything related to the Kizashi can go here, but please look at the other headings first. Your topic may fit better under something else.

Hey guys,

Hope your all keeping well,

Am moving from Sydney to Toronto in October for work, and had a couple of question about the Kizashi

1. The dealers in Ontario, can anyone recommend a decent one?
2. The Kizashi itself, does the Canadian variant get in dash navigation for the 2011 model year, just like the US version does
3. What sort of prices have you been getting for them, can you bargain on a 2011
4. The Sport model - is that coming soon, this had just been launch in Aus, and it looks rather hot on the commercials, plus we want to get one
5. My drive will be from The Beach to Mississauga, I think it is, but, to the owners out there, would this be a comfortable cruiser to work during the week?
6. Why only the 1 Model for Canada, heck even Australia get 3 XL, XLS, Sport, and the US get about 6 different grades

Guys, thanks in Advance for all your help, and looking forward to be coming a regular contrubuter to these forums

Cheers S....

First of all, welcome. You're moving here just in time for the winter, that will be fun. :-)

1. Can't vouch for their decency, but carcostcanada sent me to the ones in Mississauga that offered an invoice + $500 price. Might be good for you, if it's close to where you'll work. I got it from Pickering, which were just OK. You also have a couple near where you'll live.
2. Nope, no NAV or HIDs. But we get bluetooth (with streaming ;-) )
3. Our 2011 is the 2010 in US. If you're willing to shop around (and have the time), you can bargain a bit. See above point
4. Haven't heard anything about that one. Given that we just got the Kizashi this spring, I'd suspect we won't see it this year
5. I would definitely think so. It's quite a commute you picked (The Beaches are on the east side of Toronto, so you'll go across Toronto). And AWD sure will come in handy during the 6 months of winter :-)
6. We can only guess... Market's not that big, so maybe that's why. I would have gotten the top trim anyway, so I can't complain too much about this, but sure would have liked an option for the leather colour (we only get black for all the four available paint colours).

See you around.

Could you come to the States and purchase one? I don't know what commerce is like between us with buying cars.

It has become a little harder, but it can be done. They will make you pay a bunch in tax and fees, but it is still cheaper to buy cars in the states than it is to buy them in Canada. Canadian dealers drop down here and buy a bunch of cars in my home town and take them back up.

It depends on the car whether it's really worth it or not. Some brands don't transfer the warranty over the border, then there are some adaptations that have to be done (daytime running lights, instrument panel replacement, I forgot the rest). That's for the fully legal path, of course. Then there's the price difference itself. Cars not built in North America are subject to import taxes when brought here, AFAIR (not sure how/if that is compensated for by the sales taxes, but it might).

For the Kizashi, I guess it would be worth it if one was looking for a different trim/colour. The one we have in Canada is roughly the top one from the US and the price difference is not that bad (a bit over 1k in MSRP, if I'm not mistaken). Factor in the conversion rate (the CAD is not at parity with the USD anymore, these days) and the hassles mentioned above, and there's no deal, IMO.

I would not hold my breath, if I were you. I just realized, recently, that Australia did not have an AWD version before the Sport. So I guess that's why they introduced it there first. For us, the changes the Sport brings are mostly visual (apart from being 1 cm lower and probably differently tuned suspension), so I don't think they'll rush it in. But who knows...

Oops, my predictions were wrong. It looks like it will be here sooner. It also looks like it will only be available in FWD:

"Now, things get even more interesting with the addition of a new model to the lineup. Suzuki Canada introduced journalists to the all-new Kizashi Sport as part of a special media event in the Laurentides region of La Belle Province. Available as early as next month, this second model will position itself between the top-of-the-line SX and another newcomer, the entry-level Kizashi S.

Front-wheel drive and a 2.4-litre, 4-cylinder engine come standard with both the S and Sport models. However, the latter adds five horsepower for a total of 185. "
