Weshoot2 I was just reading that Mazda has plans for a new 3 MPS - this time with AWD (apparently). That could be a nice thing if it happens..... I had a Mazda based AWD turbo bought new way back in 1989, with a few mods to the engine it was a rocket ship - rain hail or shine! You can't beat AWD for traction in the wet.

To us Americans, the MPS is the Mazdaspeed3.
I've read that Mazda was able to work out their issues with turbocharging a SkyActiv engine so a new Mazdaspeed3 should be on its way. AWD would be crucial given the MS3's weak point was torque-steer from the nearly 270 HP going to just the front wheels.
That being said, I'd still take a WRX over one aside from looks.

You're writing off a vehicle that hasn't even been designed/ yet alone released?

PS: Mazda were doing the AWD turbo thing way before Subaru came on the scene with the WRX. It would be great to see them get back with new version with proper AWD.

I'm basing it off on Mazda's overall quality vs. Subaru's. Not only that, we've had the Mazdaspeed6 in the US two generations ago. It's commonly regarded as the car that was 75% of a STI or Evo in performance and not nearly as talented nor durable. That was a 2.3 liter turbo AWD, mind you.

As someone who's owned a Subaru Impreza and a Mazda Mazda3 before, I've had first hand experience with both their pros and cons. Subarus are simply better built and more durable, but stylistically-challenged inside and out. Mazdas look better and handle better, but don't hold up as well.
Mazda also does not continuously offer a turbocharged compact like Subaru does. In essence, Subaru has done way more R&D while steadily facing the competition from Mitsubishi, Ford, VW, etc. On the contrary, Mazda alternates which model gets the Mazdaspeed treatment, but has kept it on the Mazda3 for a while due to it getting the best sales.

While I don't mean to write off a car that has yet to be released, I have very strong faith in the WRX being better. After all, my 1995 Impreza was a better car than my 2005 Mazda3. In my mind, a Subaru is simply a better car.

Saw a white WRX in person. Very plain looking. Girlfriend even commented that it looks like no effort went into the design. Meh

9/23/2014; my Kizashi mini-anniversary. 137,108 miles

I gave it an oil change (9/23/14, 136,957); $45 at the dealer.
Also gave it ANOTHER tire first thing in the morning; down on the left rear from a 4" wood screw.
Knew them extra tires would come in handy.

Getting ready for an extended road trip middle week of October to celebrate my 60th; we've (wife and I) decided we'll first 'head west', and then we'll see from there.......

But I'm gonna bring an extra tire

Happy B-Day, enjoy the trip! The wife and I are planning a similar type of trip towards Colorado direction next summer.

I saw the new STI in traffic and didn't even know what it was initially. I actually like it better than previous year models.

The FRS/BRZ is a completely different car, and very much a 'handling purists' car. I sat in one when we were looking at getting a Subaru last year (before the Kizashi), and it was a serious driver's cockpit.
