Thread Resolved Feature?

Hey, I've been going through some of the personal classifieds threads, and I had an interesting UI idea. I was hoping to inquire about how much effort it'd be to try and put in a "Resolved" or "Sold" check box in the options tab that the original poster/admins can mark to put one of the aforementioned labels in front of the title of a classified thread. That way, new members can tell right from the title if the items in a classified thread has been sold or not.

I'm not sure how easy it'll be to implement in phpBB, but I thought I'd through it out there. If it seems like it's going to be a huge hack job, then I'd say don't worry about it. Or if it so pleases the admins, I might do a little research on trying to script up something to donate to the forums here. The only problem is I have almost no PHP experience. Just a thought.

It's a valid idea, but still involves the seller taking action to notify the item is sold. They can currently do that by posting a reply, a lot of people just disappear and don't even bother doing that.

I'll have a quick scan of that section and delete any obviously sold item posts. That will clean it up a bit.

Actually, anything older than 6 months will be deleted. If people still have those items for sale (highly unlikely) they can re-advertise them.

To keep this section a bit tidier, any "dead" adverts with over 6 months of nil posting activity will be deleted. So bump your advert every couple of months to indicate the item is still available.

Moderator interference is unnecessary IMO. We're a small community and I doubt used stock parts are in high demand. Leaving the postings alone might help the less active members buy or sell something in the future. The seller may not be active but they could have email notifications for PMs or replies to their thread.

KansasKid's idea is something I support. Other forums have an option for thread creators to delete their threads when an item is no longer available. I'm not sure if our forum software has that feature

Are we talking about "hard" deleting threads, or "soft" deleting them? I'm not really a fan of hard deleting things from databases, and I'm not really sure if a soft delete is appropriate here. My intention was just to signal to users who looking to the list which items were not for sale anymore, while leaving the threads themselves intact. But if the majority of users aren't going to read the threads after they've been resolved, perhaps is best that they're at the bare minimum hidden from the list.

Technically the original poster could easily change the title of the original post. (Currently a 30 day edit limit)

I'll probably look into it, but is in short supply these days.

In addition, there is significant update coming for phpbb in the future. Any extra modifications I make at this point will just work against us when we make the switch in a few months.

I'd rather old threads be left visible. You'll never know how much a now 'discontinued' item sold for originally without those threads.

Vbulletin has a thread prefix option that can be used for this in a similar manner, so I could see phpbb adding it too.

But since we are such a small community, I'd say just leave it as it is.

could you keep the expired stuff in an archive or something? its nice to have price reference for stuff
