Is there any way to program a new Kizashi key fob? When I purchased my vehicle, it only came with one key and so I ordered another (whew, how expensive!). Now they tell me it'll be another pretty penny to actually have it programmed to the car.
I am taking my Kiz in on Monday afternoon for the recall and was going to have the program done while I was there, but if there's a way to save some money by not having them do it, I'm all ears!
Thanks,

As far as I know, it needs to be done with special Suzuki computer tools.
Well, took it in for the recall work.
They also programmed the new key fob for me and replaced the battery in my old one. ~$120.
Moral of the story, don't lose your key fob and if it only will come with one key (if buying used), see if you can make a deal for a new one to be added.

How much did it run including the fob? We had one of ours lost when my wife's purse was stolen at the local YMCA.
Yowsers, that's even more than we've been quoted.DesRado wrote:Sorry about your wife's purse!
It was $210 for the key fob and $120 for the programming to the car. Took about a week for the key to come in. Prices include labor.

This is why I like the simplicity of my 90s Japanese cars. Need a key? $20 max!
Exactly. It may have been more because the at the time I got the key programmed, I also had the recall work performed. Probably just wanted more money out of me since the recall work was free.SamirD wrote:Yowsers, that's even more than we've been quoted.DesRado wrote:Sorry about your wife's purse!

They got paid for the recall work by Suzuki, but I know how service advisors are always trying to 'upsell' jobs.DesRado wrote:Exactly. I once saw a Nissan service writer sell 3 completely unnecessary brake jobs (pads and rotors) to women who didn't know better.

Yeah, Lower than snake spit.SamirD wrote:They got paid for the recall work by Suzuki, but I know how service advisors are always trying to 'upsell' jobs.DesRado wrote:Exactly. I think service writers can be the biggest snake next to a used salesman.

For anyone in the future who needs a key fob, you can find them on ebay and other sites often for less than $50. They just need to be reprogrammed. I believe that a technique used of less than reputable used car dealers and auction houses is to provide one fob with the car and then sell the other one by some other means for a little more profit. I don't know how many used cars I've looked at that only had one fob. I suspect they do the same with the owner's manual as so many are missing that as well.
