Yeah I saw this. Pretty sad, but I think it's cool to have such a rare car that is also a hidden gem. I mean Honda sells more Accords in a month than the the Kizashi's whole life cycle here.

You must bare in mind that they stopped making them in 2012. Anything after that point was residual stock. The Kizashi is a wonderful car, however Suzuki made a hash out of marketing it. It needed different engines for different countries, and it needed Suzuki to tell the world about it. In the UK they should have introduced a more basic model, as well as the sport, a manual gear box, as well as the CVT, and a refined diesel model. If this had of been done I can guarantee you it would have taken off.

Is there a (good) reason Suzuki never brought the Swift over to the States? I definitely would have scooped one up had it been available here. Before bringing out a whole new car, why not offer something they already sell worldwide (at least to get some attention again). My guess is that it would have taken up the SX4 sales? The styling on the Swift appeals to me much much more than that of the SX4.

That's not true. The Kizashi is still in production, just at very small numbers. All sources that stated the production of the Kizashi ceased have been unreliable. In 2012, Suzuki simply left the North American market. While I have doubts the Kizashi will continue production into the next generation, the Kizashi isn't quite dead yet. After all, the Japanese government is buying them for police duty.

I think the SX4 has a lot to do with it. Also, Suzuki was trying to be a niche brand like Subaru in offering small and rugged CUVs and SUVs with AWD/4x4. The Swift is more a subcompact city car. However, it was rumored that Suzuki was working on the Swift to meet US crash test standards. Had the Kizashi been a sales success, I have no doubt the Swift would have come to the US.
Basically, Suzuki took a gamble with the Kizashi to enter into the mainstream midsize sedan market. Despite making an impressive midsize car, they had horrible timing. The car debuted during the start of the global economic crisis. It was Suzuki's most expensive car when people were scrambling for cheap econo-boxes... like the Swift. I recall sales of cars like the Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris rising then. I truly believe what Suzuki should have done was bring the Swift first and if it enjoyed success, then develop and sell the Kizashi. They gambled on the Kizashi and put in about $1 billion into developing and producing the car. As we all know, it wasn't well received just about anywhere and will likely cease production soon without a replacement. That being said, the Kizashi's development did help other Suzuki models rise in quality. The interior of a Swift looks quite similar to that of a Kizashi.

Kizashi sales in The Netherlands:
159 between 2010 and now....

we only had the Sport edition, with all options except SatNav.
Sales has ceased since 2015, only selling the last 8 cars in stock.

Wow, you guys over there are really screwed for parts. Only 159...won't be many in the salvage yards to pick from when you need something.

Not sure we're not in about the same situation here. Been over a month waiting for the recall parts for mine. ...and where are they getting the new ones they're selling in Pakistan? (Ok, all dozen of them but???)
