Had to remove the black styrofoam section for it to fit. Placed some towels in the wheel and put the jack and other tools on top. Fits perfectly and trunk floor sits flat still.

Good to know a full size spare fits in there though I'd only use it to place a busted full size tire while riding on the donut spare. I imagine you just have your scissor jack and related tools stored elsewhere in the trunk than in the undertray?

...took it out of the garage, drove it to work then left it parked outside so the EF2 tornado that ran across my house could bitch it all up. Swirling shingles, and whatever else from wherever, did a nice job on the finish. Everything needs repainted except the roof, the hood, drivers rear quarter and the back doors. Of course, I had an existing door ding in the rear driver's quarter panel and a decent chip in the hood. Luckily no windows broke on the car, the house, or the Heep. The Heep escaped with only a single shingle strike across the hood.

What a freaking mess.

Thanks guys. We had plenty of warning to get under ground. The whole thing lasted 4-5 seconds for us. We are near the end of the path of destruction. Mostly tons of superficial damage to the house, property and cars. Nothing structural. Very fortunate its ground speed was approaching WESHOOT drive speed, fast...else our damage would have been much more severe. I know...pictures or it didn't happen right? In the one pic there's a piece of shingle tomahawk'd into the siding's corner board and there's also a chunk of concrete sticking out of the damaged soffit. That most likely came from the Amish schoolhouse that was obliterated 1/4 mile or so down the hill from us.

Saturday:
Air filter (Wix) - might actually have been the original as it was OEM Suzuki.
Cabin filter (Wix) - Yikes!!!
Oil and filter - Hate to say this but I sometimes use WalMart SuperTech full synthetic oil. I've done a lot of reading on oil and when you change synthetic oil every 5K miles, it really doesn't matter what brand you use. Matter of fact, the factory interval is 7.5K miles so even if I was using dino oil I'd still be changing it too often. The last change I used Castrol full synthetic Titanium and this is the first time I've ever been below the full mark at the oil change. Hope this is an anomaly! Oil filter was a Bosch. I used to use K&N but when I did, I had noisy startup. Not so with the Bosch. Must have a better check valve preventing flow back.
Spark plugs - 71,000 miles. Same OEM NGK part number. (correction) see pic
Rotated tires as with every oil change. I can jack the whole side of the car at once. Quick and easy. Wear is even, plenty of tread left on these Continental PureContacts after 26K miles. Only aligned when they were installed. I hesitate to have an alignment done! :? BTW - I do use a torque wrench when tightening the lugs. Set it at 95 ft/lbs. Don't recall what the manual says but I think that's close. Might even be a little too tight. :?:

Topped off the brake fluid. Still clear and clean. Manual says it needs to be replaced. I hesitate as is looks as good as new.

Still need to replace the coolant..

Plugs and filters purchased from rockauto.com and came to just about $100. Filters for these things are pricey!

It idles more smoothly now (I think) and driving seems to be a bit smoother. I would attribute it to the air filter as the plugs look pretty good at 71,000 miles. Everything is easy to get to. Changing plugs is a snap.

Needs to be vacuumed.

Back on the road. :drive:

You are babying your car if you change full synthetic oil every 5000 miles. Since you're changing it so often, it doesn't matter what brand you get. I change mine myself every 7500 miles. I usually get what is on sale for $12 after rebate. Right now, Mobil 1 and Pennzoil platinum has rebates I think. My car has just passed the 100,000 mark and I'm planning to change it every 12,000 miles once my 2 pureONE filters run out. Since you didn't like your K&N filter, I'm thinking about Mobil 1 next. Anyone using extended oil change interval yet?

Coincidentally, I just changed my oil yesterday. I always use Pennzoil Platinum 5W-30 and change it approximately every 7500 miles. I have no desire to extend my OCI beyond that for two reasons: 1) I often drive in heavy traffic and fall under the "severe" driving schedule. 2) Call me crazy, but I notice a difference in engine smoothness as the oil gets dirtier. Hence, I don't feel comfortable using the same oil beyond 8000 miles.

I typically use a Mobil 1 oil filter. The M1-103 specified for the Kizashi is smaller in physical dimensions than the OE filter and those sized the same. The Mobil 1 still fits nicely, but it's smaller so you can't see it easily from the engine bay. I've also used Bosch DistancePlus oil filters and those are sized like the OE filter. Both look solid in construction and haven't contributed to abnormal engine noises.

For me to consider an OCI beyond 10,000 miles, I'd want to get a used oil analysis done or alternatively use a Tier 4 synthetic motor oil. However, I just prefer to keep using the same stuff and keep my OCI the same.
