Hey guys, I’ve come here a lot and always find good advice. This time I don’t see my issue and kinda of know what I should do, go to an authorized service shop, but here in Dallas there doesn’t seem to be one.
My problem is that when I turn my steering wheel to the left, past about 1 1/2 turns, the good ol esp fault and hill hold disabled pops up. This will cause cause the abs to kick on on the front left wheel I believe.
my work around is to turn the wheel to the left immediately after starting the car to activate the faults before driving. The abs issue seems to only happen if I start the car (no error codes will come on and the system is functioning properly), then start driving, and then the first time
I steer too far to the left the esp pops up and then it’ll activate abs once maybe twice immediately. After that it’s fine until the next time I start the car.
Now that I have the work around, I’m fairly certain it’s the steering angle sensor, but 1) I don’t have a service center to go to, 2) I don’t have a diagnostic scan tool for Suzuki’s to do it myself , and 3) the problem started after I had my trans replaced and I feel like it just needs to be adjusted, as they had to disconnect the steering to pull the trans and my alignment was out after and my steering wheel was crooked afterwards as well.
Is there any diy to adjust it or something I can do to check the sensor angle without a pro diagnostics tool? Or anything you guys can think of outside of buying the sensor because I think it’s still good as I didn’t have this problem before the trans was replaced.
I guess my last question is, could the trans have anything to do with it? In the service manual which I found here doesn’t show anything in the cvt that suggests the cvt has any influence on the esp system or abs.
I will potentially buy a new sensor, but my concern is that if this sensor is good, then I’ll waste the money on a new sensor if I install it and it will retain the current out of wack adjustment/setting. I’m at my wits end, help!! LoL
ESP fault when turning left.
You can try another non-authorized service center with good diagnostics. I use Vgate iCar Pro + app SZ Viewer A1 for basic needs. It relies on a lot of bugs, it was made for Suzuki.

I have called around, mostly to the “privately” owned mom and pop style shops and no one says their diagnostics tools work on it. I highly doubt it, but it’s what I’ve been getting told. In San Diego I used to take it to Kia because all the Kia dealers were also Suzuki dealers. It’s where I got all my recalls done as well. But here in Dallas all the Kia dealers say they aren’t associated with Suzuki!?!
But you’re right, I will continue my search. I’m thinking it’s time for a new car LoL.
I'm from Europe and it seems to be easier here with service stations. I don't know how it is in America, but apparently it's harder. In general, Kizashi is exotic and servicing the car here is not impossible, but it is definitely difficult, that's why I'm already selling my Kizashi and it's time to move on to another more mainstream car. Good luck!

You may be onto something there. It sounds very logical that the trouble was caused when changing the transmission. Anyway, if your steering wheel is still off center what do you want to do is follow the steering shaft to the Floor and at the lowest joint there is a 12 mm bolt undo that and slide you joint right up off of the spline shaft coming up to the floor from the steering rack itself. With the car is wheels facing straight ahead reposition the steering shaft back down probably moving it one tooth maybe two until your steering wheel is straight across. Disconnect your battery for a minute and then take it for a test drive. I have found other customers with the same predicament, although they had never found the workaround that you did. This doesn’t quite add up though , but this has to get corrected before we can proceed. Anybody can look at the data from the ABS unit and the steering unit using a Snap on scan tool and test drive checking data from four wheel speed sensors and watching the steering angle sensor reading. I did have a customer that had gotten a transmission from me and had it installed at his local garage. They caused all kinds of problems . One issue was wrong placement of electronic steering harness, which comes with the steering rack itself. I ended up selling him a harness from a damaged rack and he spliced it in.

Sorry for not mentioning this before, but I already went to Firestone and had an alignment performed as I paid for the lifetime alignment they offer (it has been worth its weight in gold).old tech wrote: ↑Wed Aug 21, 2024 1:44 am You may be onto something there. So that fixed the crooked steering wheel. Now, I don’t know what method they used to straightened it. But that’s a common correction with alignments though.
So would that suggest that it’s not an adjustment issue since the alignment was put back to spec? If so I’ll just buy the sensor. I believe I found it for $400 USD.
Now, I don’t think it’s an ABS issue because I haven’t had any of the brake system faults other than hill hold disabled and the esp which is part of the brake system ecosystem.
The shop that replaced the trans was supposed to be the best shop in town for Suzuki’s according to review sites such as yelp and yellow pages… the problem is that when they test drove it, I hadn’t figured out how to induce the failure. Now the warranty window has passed and so I’m kind of on my own.
Sorry if the flow of this message is confusing, I’m parked right now at work and in a slight rush.
I wouldnt guess and start replacing very expensive parts without watching the data to see what is hiccupping . The steering angle needs checked with steering straight ahead.. It should be near 0. I had a customer replace his own transmission and while he had the steering wheel straight across , he had turned the steering shaft one whole revolution while apart so it was reading way off. Also, plenty of these things getting parted out. Why buy new when used is a fraction of that.

So after dealing with it using my work around, I finally caved in and bought ThinkScan S7 and performed the SAS Reset (steering angle sensor). I figured since the steering needed to be disconnected for the trans swap it was an expensive but worthwhile first step. After resetting it’s been working like a champ.
Thanks for the advice and help, it was much appreciated.
