I have an SLS with the nav touchscreen kenwood and it sounds horrible! Its rockford fosgate but sounds thin and weak, no punch at all, its super treble sounding. No amount of adjusting makes it sound listenable.
I went back to the dealer and listened to a gts with the rockford system but without the touchscreen... NIGHT AND DAY!! Sounded full and powerfull, the way it should. Dealer said they have different head units and that why the difference. But arent they BOTH rockford fosgate 425watt systems? Why does mine sound like a tin can? Why did I pay more for a inferior product?

From what I understand (at least initially) the Kenwood NAV unit was retrofitted after leaving the factory. It sounds like someone mucked up the install!

I listened to another SLS at the dealership with nav unit and it sounded just as bad as mine. The dealer is saying thats the way that unit is implemented into the system and thats the way it was designed to sound. He agrees though that it doesnt have the same bass response at all. It can get loud, but sounds like tiny toons. He said he cant make mine sound like the regular rockford system because its not the same. I say shouldnt they sound exactly the same? If not, isnt that false advertising? Can anyone with the kenwood touchscreen reply with how theirs sounds? I'd like to know if this is a problem with my dealers stock or if this is how they all sound...CRAPPY!

My settings are
Subwoofer +10 (max) Sounds the same at min level -25
Bass +3
Mid +2
Treble 0
Volume offset 0
Loudness on (on or off doesnt make much difference)
In the crossover settings yes the sub is on and no adjustment makes a difference.

I have played with many different settings (over the 2 months that i've owned the car) and nothing makes it sound remotely close to what the non kenwood system sounds like. So frustrating!!!

I had the touchscreen replaced about a month ago because of this problem and others. It would skip back to the start of songs with cd and usb, the radio would leave the station it was at and randomly search for another station. All of these problems are there on the replacement unit as well.
To top it all off, my last tank of gas averaged 18.5 MPG. What the heck! My last car with the same rating 22/29MPG got 21-22 MPG with the same exact driving habits.

Does anyone know where the amp is located?

Yeah, that's where mine is set. Personally, I think it blends nicely, the bass has good extension, but I had assumed this was all at "0", and that more would be available by going to "+" adjustments. I was kind of disappointed that it was already maxed out, because there's maybe 10% of the time that I wish the dial went to 11.

ckgolf - good question. I wonder if the gain structure of the amp is designed around the RF head unit that might send a MUCH hotter signal down the subwoofer line, and we just need to dial in a little more gain in the amp.

You can probably do a bit better by dialing in some EQ to your iPod if that's what you're using as a source ...

tc-It does have a nice blend on certian music at certain levels, but it seems to be lacking greatly of its potential. If you have nothing to compare it to then yeah, your ears will adjust to the way it sounds as being normal. I mean go listen to the regular rockford system, that setup has bass to spare! I had to dail it down some it was so powerful, I had the punch at +4.

I think I will bring it to a different dealer to see what they say about the systems sounding so different. My current dealer is content on saying it sounds good enough and thats just the way it was designed, even though he says himself the other system sounds better. I just want what I paid for, not some watered down version of what I know its should be.

What can I do? How can Suzuki sell this version with the kenwood and call it a real deal rockford fosgate 425watt system, when it doesnt preform at all the same as the other (REAL) version?? I feel cheated because I wanted the SLS, but every one of that trim came with the optional nav unit installed. I didnt want the nav, but didnt have a choice since i wanted the SLS. I didnt know i was paying more for less :( not a happy customer! I'm also gonna give customer service a call.

I believe its in the boot (trunk) on the right hand side.

And your not alone with the poor fuel consumption on a car thats advertised as "best in class"!
