Not sure if this is correct or not, but last five digits on the Kizashi's VIN is the production number. His probably ends in 00082.newworld2004 wrote:@JDReichert

Hey all,
if the VIN numbering is based on production serial number, then I have the car among the first 125. JDReichert, can u verify ur VIN to see if this theory is correct. I have build date of 12/09.
Also a side note. Just did 700 mile round trip to NYC. With 80% highway (with 40 % of it on cruise control) and 20% NYC traffic plus holiday bumper to bumper at toll booth traffic and all of this with my AC on I averaged 31.4 with dash-o-meter reporting 33 mpg on two tanks of regular 87 gas.
I m loving it
Thanks.

Just a quick update.
Kizzy has been perfect since the new tranny was installed. Put about 300 miles on it so far.
I got a call from Suzuki customer service, asking if i was satisfied with the repair and with the dealers treatment. I was surprised by the call. I DID lodge a complaint with them over the way the roadside assistance treated me, but i did not expect a follow up like that.

got my car back today after transmission change....hope it does not leave me stranded on highway anymore.
I don't exactly understand what was the issue with my transmission.....after seizing on highway for a while...it drove well for next 1400 miles although acceleration always felt a bit heavy. American Suzuki decided to replace the transmission although dealer said car drives OK.
hope this problem does not infest to many Kizashi's....

It's possible there was a bad batch of CVT's(or sensors). The fact that Suzuki changed these trannys so quickly tells me it is an issue they are aware of.

That transmission is the same unit used in the Nissan Altima and Suburu Legacy and Outback, and has been reliable in those applications. I tend to suspect that the transmission computer programming is the root of the problem, NOT mechanical failure. I know that Suzuki did a recall to re-flash the transmission computer a while back, and I have to wonder if the issue that has been discussed here is the result if a failure to have that recall performed. In any event, it's good to see that Suzuki is standing behind the product and taking care of the customers. I know that many dealers are clueless, but the company seems to have a handle on the issue, and is trying to keep it's customers happy.
Having said that, I still wish that Suzuki would reprogram the CVT to NOT gear down so low in moderate-speed (30-50 MPH) cruising. I, too, feel the engine lug a bit when cruising at 30-35 MPH, and a simple re-program to up the engine speed a few hundred RPM would do wonders for the drivability and responsiveness of the CVT.

Yesterday, we were just pulling into town after putting 500 miles on my Kiz on a weekend road trip. When we got into town, I noticed a very high pitched whine coming from under the hood, specifically when I would take my foot off the gas. I drive an AWD that was manufactured in 2/2010, so now I am worried that I am going to get the same tranny failure that the other two posters have experienced. I drove it again last night and today with the stereo off, being careful to listen for the same noise... but heard nothing.
I sure hope my Kiz holds up, but if it's going to fail I'm hoping it does it before our next road trip.

How were the engine RPM's? Mine were high whenever the problem occurred. High as inb 4000-4500 when it should have been at 2000-2500Hawkzilla wrote:Yesterday, we were just pulling into town after putting 500 miles on my Kiz on a weekend road trip.
